I’m Ready For a Punjabi Wedding

– blkcory

*This playlist is a tribute to my brudda Harpreet and his wife Anu. Sorry I couldn’t make it to your wedding. Hope this playlist can still add to the vibe on your honeymoon. *

Have you ever been to a Punjabi wedding? Speaking from the perspective of someone who is not Punjabi, I have to tell you they are lit! Not only is the tun up* on a madness* for 5+ days but you actually get to see the beauty of their culture and traditions. It’s one of the few types of weddings I’ve experienced that make you feel like you’ve been transported to an entirely new place. Each day is a different experience. The way people dress will change, the food will change and the ceremonies will change. It’s a time of celebration and since I missed my boy’s wedding, I thought to myself, what better wedding gift is better than music (there are a lot of other things I could probably do but ease up, this is a music post)?

I took to the streets (I really just asked my friends) to find out what songs need to be on a Punjabi wedding and street record playlist. After much debate and review from an elite Punjabi community panel, I am now prepared to present this playlist titled “I’m Ready for a Punjabi Wedding“. I’d like thank everyone I reached out to from the Punjabi community that helped me with putting this together. I don’t understand anything being said in any of these songs but I do know Sidhu Moose Wala is a badmon* and that the main line in the song Moorni translates to “girl where you going looking like a peacock?”

As always I’ve put the playlist songs in a specific order (sort of like an album) and the listening experience is much more enjoyable if you play it from start to finish instead of on shuffle. If you don’t end with Rail Gaddi (from my experience, it’s the song where everyone does the conga line at the end of the wedding), why did you press play? Happy listening and keep this in the tuck* for the next wedding season.
