We Might Get a Jai Paul Album in Real Life

This is not a drill (well it is if he doesn’t release new music), Jai Paul is listed to perform at Coachella this year. Now with that said,  I don’t really care all that much about Coachella itself. However,  I cannot deny that artists performing at this festival tend to drop new music. Someone I have been waiting for an album from for what feels like my entire life is Jai Paul. To be completely honest, if we get a Jai Paul album this year, mans might fall apart. Jai Paul is like an urban legend because bare* people know his demos but nobody has seen him alive (debatable), do a live performance or heard a finalized album from this man.

To keep it a band, for a decade I thought my man was dead yo. In 2012 he had some demo tracks leak and that’s how I first heard “Jasmine”. The day I listened to that song felt like a reintroduction to the feeling that music can be beautiful. I actually didn’t even know Jai Paul was the artist that made the song until 2 years later. I just knew that this incomplete record that was on my iPod classic slapped*. Then the man disappears off the phase of the earth. Radio silence. I started to think that these were actually leaked songs created by someone who had transcended into the spirit realm. Well, that was until 2019.

In 2019, Jai Paul randomly resurfaced to tell the world he was indeed not dead and neither was his desire to make music. He wrote a letter to the fan base that I don’t even think he knew he necessarily had and put out a digital streaming version of “ Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)”. This project was a collection of incomplete records that likely would have been on some sort of project back when “Jasmine” first leaked. On that same day he also released two never before heard songs, “Do You Love Her Now” and “He”.  When it happened I thought it was a joke but nah, it was real life.

Now in 2023, the man might perform in front of real-life people and I might be able to stream music off of a potential new project from home (these Coachella prices are mod*). Has he confirmed an album? No, but neither did Frank Ocean and the last time he did Coachella (or went outside for that matter), he had new music. Are my hopes high? Yes. Could I be significantly let down ? Yes. But if an album is truly released, the entire 2010s era of my life will finally be complete. We might get a Jai Paul album in real life.
