Pass the Aux, a series dedicated to amplifying new and upcoming musicians. We will get you up-to-date in discovering new music monthly to the point where your friends will ask you to “pass the aux!” The first Thursday of every month consists of some of the members of dayfour choosing musicians to highlight. We will give you our thoughts, our feelings and our theories on those musicians (strictly from a consumer standpoint).
*Have you got new music you want people to hear? Or perhaps you know someone that you think makes great music and just hasn’t had their big break? Make sure to follow us on IG and email links/information on new music to: hellodayfour@gmail.com. We’ll be reviewing all submissions and deciding to focus on someone new each month.
blkcory’s pick: iblss
Imma be real it has been a crazy week for me personally. Life has been moving too fast so in my downtime to help me relax, I’ve just been listening to beats. Somewhere on my journey down the rabbit hole, I came across iblss. I did zero research on this man also known as Idris Brewster (at least that’s what his IG says) because that’s just been the type of week I’m having but his beats are fire so I thought I’d share a few of the ones that caught my attention.
AKAI SOLO – Demonslayer (prod. Iblss)
These are honestly my favourite type of beats to listen to when I’m trying to cool out*. Beats with dope samples, horns and string instruments. It’s something you can play on a rainy day, a. sunny day, while you’re working at home, it doesn’t matter. It’s a beat you can feel and the AKAI SOLO vocals are just a bonus.
quilombos
This is hip-hop man! Don’t let the lack of lyrics fool you. This beat makes you close you wanna close your eyes and bop your head the same way a Dilla or Nujabes beat would.
iblss Beat Set – SatSynNYC
I’m so glad people still do this man. A few years back I organized a show in Edmonton for local beatmakers to come and just showcase their art in a room with people that just enjoy music. This beat set brought me back to those days and reminded me of the feeling you can get off of just hearing a beat. No vocals, no bars, just a rhythmic unit in music. From about the 2-minute mark onwards, I knew I was just gonna let the whole video play yo.
